STEPHEN
BULLAMORE
Stephen
is an
active
and accomplished choral director and organist. Current
posts
include
Director of Music at Waltham Abbey
, Musical Director of the North
Herts Guild of Singers and Musical
Director of Barnet Choral
Society.
He is also
a graduate teaching assistant at
Bangor University.
Stephen
Bullamore
started
his
musical life as a chorister York Minster. He studied as an
undergraduate at
Keble College, Oxford as Organ Scholar, where with the chapel choir he
recorded
a number of CDs, including part of Priory Records' Magnificat and
Nunc
Dimittis series and broadcast live on BBC radio. In conjunction
with his
post at Keble, Stephen was Organist and Director of Music at St Mark's,
Swindon. An
accomplished
choir
director
and
organist
he holds diplomas in both disciplines from the Royal College of
Organists. Postgraduate
study
at
Goldsmiths resulted in the degree of
MMus in
Historical Musicology, gained with Distinction.
Stephen
spent
a
year
at
Guildford
Cathedral as Organ Scholar before moving to
Lincoln
Cathedral in 2001 as an Assistant Organist. Since his appointment as
Director
of Music at Waltham Abbey in 2005 the
choir
has toured to Guildford, Chichester, Chelmsford
and Lincoln Cathedrals
and recorded a CD for the
church's 950th anniversary in 2010.

Stephen plays both
harpsichord and organ as part of a continuo group. He owns his own
harpsichord (by Huw Saunders), and has easy access to a chamber organ
(by Vincent Woodstock). Both harpsichord and chamber organ are
available at a variety of pitches and temperaments. |

As a continuo player Stephen has also recently
taken part in performances of Handel's Messiah, Saul, Semele, and Samson; Bach's St John Passion
and B minor Mass; Purcell's Dido and Aeneas; Schutz Magnificat.
As an
organist he has accompanied works such as Durufle's Requiem, Rutter Gloria, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Parry Blest Pair of Sirens, Elgar Te Deum and the world premiere of
Philip Moore's Ode to St. Cecilia.
Solo
recital venues have included Westminster Abbey,
Bristol and Ripon cathedrals, Bromley and Kingston Parish Churches.

As Musical Director of two large choirs, the North Herts
Guild of
Singers and Barnet Choral Society as well as Waltham Abbey Choir
Stephen has conducted much of the major choral repertoire. Works
include Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. John Passion and B
minor
Mass,
Duruflé’s and Faure's Requiem,
B minor Mass, Monteverdi's
1610 Vespers, Jenkins' Mass for Peace, Elgar's Te Deum,
Rossini's Petetie Messe Solonnelle
and a
recent commision
from Morgan Hayes, Voices of Benslow.
Stephen also
directs Ferdinand's
Consort. Founded 2001 they have since sung concerts and services in
a variety of venues, including Lincoln and Guildford Cathedrals.
Although their repertoire at first leant towards Renaissance Spanish
and English
music they have performed a wide range of items. Their CD output
includes The
Sacred Music of Thomas Morley, released on the
Priory label, and a recording of the work of Thomas Tudway using
editions especially prepared by Stephen. Future
plans
include
a critical edition of his complete works as well as editions and
recordings of Tudway's contemporary, John Weldon.
Stephen is an examiner for the ABRSM.
